South Eye | Report - Exclusive

In the wake of the tragic crash of Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8432 near Aktau, Kazakhstan, which resulted in the loss of at least 38 lives, the international community is calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. The European Union has emphasized the necessity for a "transparent and rapid" inquiry to ascertain the causes of the crash and to prevent future occurrences.

The ill-fated flight, an Embraer 190 aircraft, was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, when it encountered severe weather conditions. This prompted the crew to divert towards Aktau for an emergency landing. Tragically, the plane crashed during the landing attempt, leading to significant loss of life and injuries among the passengers and crew.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who was en route to St. Petersburg for a summit at the time of the accident, immediately returned to Baku upon receiving news of the crash. He convened an emergency meeting and announced the initiation of a criminal investigation to determine the exact causes of the disaster. President Aliyev stated, "The commission's task is to fully investigate the matter, examine the causes of the crash and all its details, and provide information both to me and to the Azerbaijani public."

In addition to the EU's call for a swift investigation, NATO has also urged a comprehensive inquiry. A NATO spokesperson expressed condolences and emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth behind the incident. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of Azerbaijan Airlines flight J28243," the spokesperson said, adding, "We wish those injured in the crash a speedy recovery and call for a full investigation."

Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 indicated that the aircraft experienced erratic altitude changes and performed a figure-eight maneuver before the crash. The data also suggested "strong GPS jamming," which may have contributed to the difficulties faced by the flight crew.

Speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of the plane being mistakenly targeted amid regional military activities especially Russia which it was carried a massive attacks on Ukraine, destroying any thing stand not only on the ground but even in the air. However, no official sources have confirmed such theories, and authorities have urged against premature conclusions. President Aliyev emphasized the need for a thorough investigation before discussing potential causes, stating, "There are various theories, but I believe it is premature to discuss them. The matter must be thoroughly investigated."

The international aviation community is closely monitoring the situation, with safety experts advocating for a meticulous examination of all factors, including mechanical failure, human error, and external influences. The findings of the investigation are anticipated to have significant implications for aviation safety protocols in the region.

As the investigation proceeds, the global community stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, awaiting answers that may prevent such tragedies in the future.
