Annalena Charlotte Alma Baerbock was born on December 15, 1980, in Hanover, She studied political science at the University of Hamburg and earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She later pursued doctoral studies at the Free University of Berlin, though she did not complete the degree.

Baerbock began her professional career as a staff member and head of office for Member of the European Parliament Elisabeth Schroedter from 2005 to 2008, followed by work as an adviser on foreign and security policy for the Green parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. Between 2009 and 2013, she served as the chair of Alliance 90/The Greens in the state of Brandenburg. She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 and took on national leadership roles in the party from 2018 to 2022. In December 2021, Baerbock became Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in the government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, serving until her new position as President of the UN General Assembly in 2025.
