The Administrative Body of the National Assembly Calls on Brothers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to Intervene Urgently and Save Aden from a Humanitarian Catastrophe (Statement)

Wednesday, February 5, 2025

The Administrative Body of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council held its regular meeting today, Wednesday, chaired by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, President of the Assembly.

The Body extensively addressed the catastrophic collapse of services in the capital, Aden, resulting from the complete shutdown of power generation stations. The following statement was issued from the meeting:

Text of the Statement:

The Administrative Body of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council appeals to the Arab Coalition countries, foremost among them the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to urgently intervene to halt the escalating and catastrophic deterioration of the service, living, and economic conditions, and to save the capital, Aden, and the rest of the southern governorates from a humanitarian disaster.

The Administrative Body of the Assembly confirms that the capital, Aden, is now facing a catastrophic situation due to the complete absence of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and their total failure to fulfill their responsibilities. The capital has been deprived of the most basic services as a result of the government's inability to carry out and assume its responsibilities toward the people in the southern governorates and liberated areas.

The Administrative Body of the Assembly strongly rejects the exploitation of this suffering and its redirection to push forward exposed political agendas and objectives that target the people of the South and their cause, serving only the Houthi militias and terrorist groups. This is particularly evident in the increasing deterioration of the local currency against foreign currencies, accompanied by rising prices of food and consumer goods and a growing cost of living. Moreover, the complete cessation of electricity services in the capital, Aden, is an unprecedented event since its introduction nearly a century ago, threatening to halt hospital operations and cut off water supplies to all districts of the capital. This situation reflects the government and the Presidential Leadership Council's failure to provide sufficient shipments of fuel and diesel to operate power generation stations, as well as their inability to secure the arrival of crude oil shipments from Hadramout Governorate to the capital, Aden.
