Member of the PLC Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, Condemns Houthi Militia’s Crimes Against UN Agency Employees

REPORTS - 9 days ago

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, condemned the arbitrary practices and crimes committed by the terrorist Houthi militia against employees of UN agencies and international organizations. The latest of these crimes was the death of Ahmed Ba’alawi, an Information Technology Operations Officer at the World Food Programme, who died while being arbitrarily detained by the Houthi militia.

During his meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a delegation from the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen—including Ms. Roxana Yelena Bazargan, Head of the Political Affairs Section; General Anthony Hayward, Military Advisor; and Dr. Dirk-Jan Omtzigt, Senior Economic Advisor—Al-Bahsani expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the martyr who lost his life in Houthi prisons, as well as to all his colleagues at the World Food Programme.

He called on the UN envoy’s delegation to take decisive steps to relocate the headquarters of UN organizations to the capital, Aden, in order to protect their staff from any attacks and to provide them with the necessary governmental facilities to ensure the success of their missions and work.

Al-Bahsani also received a briefing on the latest efforts undertaken by the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen and discussed views on the current security context in Yemen and the region.

The member of the Presidential Leadership Council provided a detailed explanation of the political, military, and economic situation in the country, caused by the terrorist Houthi militia’s coup against the state and its forcible control of government institutions in areas under its rule. He highlighted the expansion of Houthi terrorist activities—backed by Tehran—into vital maritime corridors, as well as their attacks on oil facilities in the governorates of Hadramout and Shabwa. These actions, he noted, have led to a significant economic decline, negatively impacting the lives and livelihoods of citizens in liberated areas.

Al-Bahsani reviewed the tireless efforts and initiatives of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to address various challenges, stabilize the situation, improve public services, and implement reforms across different sectors, including the economy.

He called for an escalation of international positions and the imposition of stricter sanctions against the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militia to break its dominance in the region. He also stressed the importance of supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in their battle against the Houthis by intensifying international efforts to combat terrorism in Yemen, ensuring that terrorist groups and elements do not regain strength.

The meeting also discussed the Presidential Leadership Council’s ongoing efforts—despite the difficult circumstances—to promote the principles of integrity and transparency, strengthen public trust in state institutions, and combat corruption, which has become an unfamiliar phenomenon in society. The council is making significant efforts to eradicate corruption, aiming to make the liberated areas a model for institutional governance and achieve further development across the governorates.

The UN envoy’s delegation reaffirmed the commitment of the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen to continue supporting the Presidential Leadership Council and the government in addressing economic and humanitarian challenges, contributing to peace, security, and stability in Yemen.
