South Eye | Hadramout

The Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council held its regular meeting today, Thursday, chaired by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Council and President of the National Assembly, with the presence of the heads of the Council’s bodies.

The session opened with discussions on the accelerating political and security developments in Hadramout Governorate. In this regard, the Presidency praised the tremendous efforts and sacrifices made by the Hadrami Elite Forces in maintaining security and stability and confronting any attempts to disrupt public tranquility or spread chaos in the governorate and undermine its achievements.

The Presidency warned against any attempts to stir unrest or fuel tensions in the governorate, affirming its firm rejection of any moves targeting the Hadrami Elite Forces, which it described as a safety valve for Hadramout and one of the most significant national accomplishments in the modern era.

The Presidency reiterated that the Southern Transitional Council was the first to adopt the demands of the Sons of Hadramout in all its documents and literature, as well as the documents agreed upon within the framework of the Southern National Dialogue, most notably the Historic Aden Declaration, the Southern National Charter, and the Council’s vision for the upcoming federal southern state. This vision grants all governorates the right to self-administration and the benefit of their resources across various sectors.

The Presidency also reaffirmed that the Council’s hand remains extended for dialogue with various southern national forces and entities, based on the principle of "The South is for and with all its people," in a way that serves the public interest of the South, preserves its social fabric, enhances opportunities for sustainable development and stability across all governorates, and achieves the southern people's aspirations.

In the same context, the Presidency discussed the ongoing preparations to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the liberation of Hadramout’s coast from the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda. The event is scheduled to be held in the city of Mukalla on April 24 under the slogan "Hadramout First," and is being organized by the Executive Authority of the Council in the governorate.

The Presidency called on all the Sons of Hadramout to participate actively and widely in this important national occasion, in affirmation of their pride in the heroic role played by the Hadrami Elite Forces, in remembrance of the great sacrifices made to defeat terrorism and establish security, and as a renewed show of popular support for Hadramout’s achievements and a rejection of any attempts to target the Elite Forces or undermine their accomplishments.

Acting President of the Council and Head of the Preparatory Committee for the Council of Elders of South Arabia, Mr. Ali Al-Kathiri, also reviewed the goals and directions behind the establishment of the Council of Elders. He indicated that the decision by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council, in this regard stemmed from the Council’s core principles and vision, as the unifying body for national elites from influential and community figures in the South. This initiative aims to solidify the values of reconciliation and tolerance and to enhance the role of elders, sheikhs, sultans, and princes in supporting national dialogue efforts and laying the foundations for the aspired southern state.

Al-Kathiri explained that the Preparatory Committee's tasks are clearly defined in the decision issued by President Commander Aidroos Qasem Al-Zubaidi, focusing solely on the organizational aspect — preparing tasks and responsibilities, and organizing the relationship between the Council of Elders and the various bodies of the Southern Transitional Council — with the ultimate goal of announcing the formation of the Council. This council will ensure fair representation of all southern governorates’ tribes and social segments, taking into account their specifications.
