[/caption] In the last part of December 2022, Al-Qaeda seized a shipment of drones, and succeeded in seizing them from a military convoy that was loyal to the Brotherhood. The accident occurred along the international road linking Ma'rib governorate with Wadi Hadramout region, southeast of Yemen. According to the official military data released at the time, the said incident was premeditated. The truck carrying the cargo of drones reportedly left Marib and headed towards Wadi Hadramout. Subsequently, a deliberate ambush was carried out on the Abr road, which led to an attack on the military personnel deployed to secure the cargo. The collapse of the drone delivery system marked a significant shift in the terrorist group's development of capabilities in Yemen, particularly in the wake of attacks affecting its primary strongholds in the recently liberated southern regions. According to military sources, a shipment of Iranian aircraft that was supposed to be delivered to the Houthi militia was revealed. However, the shipment was diverted in cooperation with the Brotherhood's military forces in Marib and Wadi Hadramout, in order to provide strategic support to Al-Qaeda. This course of action was deemed necessary to prevent the imminent collapse and possible collapse of the organization, after a series of strikes and security campaigns in the Shabwa and Abyan regions. The sources confirmed that the elements of the Houthi militia, with the help of Iranian specialists, played a role in guiding many elements affiliated with al-Qaeda in developing and deploying drones for the purpose of carrying out suicide attacks in the liberated areas. According to reliable sources, the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization's possession of drones poses a great danger. This danger is not related to the fight against terrorism in Yemen, but rather a threat to neighboring countries and the global community. Since these drones are able to evade detection, perform precise maneuvers, and launch attacks, they may be leveraged to carry out suicide attacks. According to sources in Yemeni intelligence, the Houthi militia is providing al-Qaeda in Yemen with unrestricted military assistance at the direction of Iran. This support aims to target the military and security forces in the liberated governorates, specifically those in Abyan and Shabwa, where intensive counter-terrorism operations are currently underway to eliminate terrorist strongholds. Based on the intelligence gathered, assistance to the Houthi rebellion included specialized weapons and hidden explosive devices. However, their support extended to fortifying the group with drones, electronic components, and modern communication circuits made at home by Houthi fighters with the help of elements from Iran and Hezbollah operating from an operations center located in Sanaa. According to reliable sources, al-Qaeda has recently acquired modern control systems for drones and advanced remote detonation systems specially designed to detonate explosive devices, manufactured and deployed by the Houthis, with the aim of targeting the movements of the southern forces participating in them. Military missions “arrows of the east” and “arrows of the south”. The southern regions of Abyan and Shabwa are the focus of discussion. Moreover, some of the equipment that is sent to the enterprise serves the purpose of manufacturing disguised explosive deterrents. Certain devices were also confiscated in close proximity to the security and military barriers in the aforementioned governorates. The results proved that Al-Bayda governorate, which is currently controlled by the Houthis, has emerged as an important stronghold for the terrorist faction, in addition to being a refuge for its members fleeing from the “Siham Al-Sharq” and “Siham Al-Janoub” in Abyan and Shabwa, respectively. According to intelligence sources, the al-Qaeda faction in Yemen has witnessed major setbacks in developing its military capabilities due to the defection and confusion among its members, as well as the scarcity of funding. As a result, the organization's leadership established a communication channel with the Houthi militia as a means of obtaining the necessary military and financial assistance to survive and continue. Manifestations of support were manifested through the liberation of detainees in Yemeni prisons from members of the organization, as well as the concession of areas in Al-Bayda with the aim of restructuring the hierarchical organization. In addition to the above, it is important to acknowledge the provision of unlimited military assistance in return for the purpose of directing attacks on the liberated areas and attacking the southern forces. More recently, al-Qaeda in Yemen claimed responsibility for an air attack that targeted a military facility belonging to the defense forces in Shabwa. This military site is located in the Al-Saeed Directorate, southwest of Shabwa Governorate, in Al-Musina’a District. The attack was carried out by a drone similar to the aircraft used by the Houthi rebel group, which was produced in Iran. The terrorist operation injured Major General Staff, Commander Ahmed Al-Suleimani. Al-Qaeda-linked accounts posted information on social media indicating that the group was responsible for an attack against the Shabwa Defense Forces located in the Musina'a district about a month ago. This attack took place after the area was secured and cleared in Operation Arrows of the South, which took place at the end of last year. The aircraft deployed in the two aforementioned attacks starkly resemble the drones that the group captured in December of the previous year. The current finding confirms the notion that the organization succeeded in implementing the operation of these UAVs, benefiting from the support provided by the Houthi militia and competent Iranian technicians actively involved in managing UAV-related activities inside Yemen.
