Russia launches the fiercest cyberattack on America and its institutions Eye of the South, Aden [caption id="attachment_1188" align="alignnone" width="300"] Russia launches the fiercest cyberattack on America and its institutions[/caption] Russian hackers launched a massive cyberattack targeting US federal government agencies Thursday, exploiting a security flaw in widely used software, CNN reported. A senior US official told the network that "Russian-speaking hackers were behind the cyber attack on government agencies," noting that hundreds of companies and organizations in the United States could also be affected by the cyber attack. He added that the Russian hackers did not demand a ransom from the official agencies.   The US administration had moved to contain the fallout from the attack, which affected organizations around the world earlier on Thursday. These cyber attacks come in conjunction with the "hacking campaign", which began two weeks ago and targeted major American universities and state governments. A week ago, a Russian group called "Club" claimed responsibility for some of the hacks targeting the BBC, British Airways and Shell Oil.
