John Alfred Tinniswood, a man who bore witness to over a century
of history, passed away at the age of 112, leaving behind a legacy marked by resilience, wisdom, and compassion. Surrounded by the warmth of music and the love of his family, Tinniswood took his final breath at the Hollies Rest Home in Southport, Merseyside, on Monday.

Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, just months after the Titanic’s tragic sinking, Tinniswood's life was a journey through some of history's most transformative events. As a young man, he served in the British Army Pay Corps during World War II, a role that reflected his sharp intellect and meticulous nature. He later lived through decades of global change, watching the world evolve from the aftermath of two world wars to the digital revolution of the 21st century.

Earlier this year, Tinniswood was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living man following the death of Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez at 114. This honor was a testament to a life marked by perseverance and quiet strength.

In a heartfelt statement, his family celebrated the great-grandfather as a man of intelligence, bravery, and kindness. "John had many fine qualities," they shared, describing him as calm in any crisis, exceptionally talented in mathematics, and an engaging conversationalist. His life was also an inspiration to those around him, especially at the Hollies Rest Home, where he had resided since his centenary. His energy and enthusiasm for life left an indelible mark on the staff and residents alike.

As we reflect on his extraordinary journey, Tinniswood's story is a reminder of the strength of the human spirit, the value of resilience, and the enduring importance of connection and kindness. He leaves behind not only memories cherished by those who knew him but also a powerful example of a life well-lived.
