STC President Emphasizes International Action Against Houthi Terrorism

South Eye | Report - Exclusive

In a critical meeting with U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, the President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) renewed calls for a unified and resolute international stance to counter the escalating threats posed by the Houthi militia. The President emphasized that the group’s ongoing acts of terrorism on land and sea continue to endanger the lives of innocent civilians, particularly targeting the people of Yemen.

The STC leader described the Houthis as a group driven by a destructive agenda of violence and chaos, fundamentally incompatible with peace initiatives. He firmly asserted that without decisive international pressure and firm action, the Houthis would not engage seriously with peace efforts. Instead, they would persist in exploiting diplomatic overtures as opportunities to further their militaristic ambitions.

The President’s statement reflects the growing frustration within southern leadership over the international community's perceived inaction in the face of Houthi aggression. Despite multiple attempts at peace, the Houthis have consistently demonstrated an unwillingness to abandon their hostile strategies, using terrorism and violence as tools to consolidate power.

The President stressed that the Houthis' belligerent activities are not isolated incidents but part of a broader campaign to destabilize South and the region. Their actions, including attacks on civilian populations, maritime routes, and critical infrastructure, pose a direct threat to regional and global security.

The Need for Decisive Measures
Echoing previous calls from southern leaders, the President underscored the necessity of robust international measures to curb Houthi aggression. He advocated for:

Tightening economic and political sanctions against Houthi leaders and their external supporters, particularly Iran, bolstering maritime and border security to prevent the smuggling of weapons and supplies that fuel Houthi operations, empowering southern and Yemeni forces to combat Houthi threats more effectively, both on the battlefield and through intelligence operations, and encouraging the international community to adopt a cohesive approach that sends a clear message of zero tolerance for Houthi terrorism.

The STC President’s remarks also serve as a warning against complacency. He noted that the absence of firm action would only embolden the Houthis, allowing them to expand their influence and perpetuate their destructive activities. The situation requires immediate and coordinated efforts to hold the group accountable for its actions and to protect the people of region from further suffering.

The President reiterated the STC’s commitment to achieving peace but stressed that sustainable peace in Yemen could only be realized through strength and resolve. As long as the Houthis continue to prioritize war over dialogue, the international community must stand firm in confronting their actions and ensuring accountability.

The meeting with Lenderking underscores the importance of U.S. engagement in Yemen’s conflict and the need for American leadership in galvanizing global efforts to counter Houthi terrorism. The STC President’s message is clear: peace is possible, but only when the Houthis are met with a unified and determined international response that compels them to abandon their violent agendas.
