UNESCO's global event, held on February 20-21, 2025, at its headquarters in Paris, underscores the urgency of accelerating progress on linguistic diversity to build a more inclusive and sustainable world by 2030. The event brings together policymakers, educators, and cultural advocates to discuss strategies for preserving the approximately 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, of which at least 40% are endangered due to globalization and societal changes.
