On the 10th Anniversary of Aden Liberation

REPORTS - منذ 23 يوم

As we commemorate the tenth anniversary of Aden's liberation, we reflect on the enduring struggle to preserve this hard-won victory. The initial triumph in 2015 was achieved through the unwavering courage of Aden's youth and the valiant fighters from across the southern governorates, supported by the generous assistance of the Arab Coalition, notably United Arab Emirates. However, the battle did not conclude with the ousting of the Houthi militias; Aden has since faced continuous challenges aimed at undermining its stability and reversing the gains of liberation.

In the aftermath of liberation, Aden became a target for terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS. These groups sought to destabilize the city through a series of bombings, assassinations, and attacks on vital infrastructure. Notable incidents included assaults on recruitment centers like Solaban, Ras Abbas, and Badr camps, as well as the targeting of Aden's airport, port, and central bank. The resilience of Aden's security forces and the Southern Resistance was pivotal in thwarting these attempts, ensuring that the city did not fall into the hands of extremists.

Beyond direct terrorist threats, Aden capital has been subjected to systematic efforts aimed at undermining its security and stability. These subversive activities have manifested in various forms, including economic sabotage, political conspiracies, and the spread of misinformation. The discovery and dismantling of sabotage networks affiliated with the Houthi militias with suspected role from Muslim brotherhood, as reported by Aden's security apparatus, underscore the persistent threats that seek to erode the city's hard-earned peace.

Following military setbacks, adversaries of Aden capital have resorted to economic warfare, implementing strategies designed to cripple the city's infrastructure and services. This has led to deteriorations in essential sectors such as electricity, healthcare, and education, exacerbating the hardships faced by Aden's residents. The Southern Transitional Council (STC), under the leadership of President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, has assumed responsibility for mitigating these challenges, striving to restore and improve public services despite limited resources and ongoing adversities.

Aden capital has also been the focus of extensive media campaigns aimed at distorting facts and undermining the morale of southern people. These operations, funded by entities opposed to South's autonomy and progress, have sought to tarnish the image of the Southern Resistance and the STC on both domestic and international fronts. Despite these efforts, the awareness and unity of  Souths populace have been instrumental in countering misinformation and upholding the city's narrative of resilience and determination.

The political landscape in Aden Capital has been fraught with attempts to derail the southern liberation movement and its achievements. Opposition forces have endeavored to dismantle the political gains realized since 2015, particularly those associated with the establishment and recognition of the STC. Nevertheless, the council has managed to safeguard these accomplishments, thanks to the steadfast support and consciousness of the southern people, who recognize that these political victories are integral to their broader aspirations for self-determination and governance.

A decade after its liberation, Aden capital continues to navigate a complex web of challenges aimed at reversing its strides toward stability and southern governance. The city's journey underscores a fundamental tenet of political science: preserving victory is often more arduous than achieving it. The multifaceted battles—against terrorism, economic hardship, media distortion, and political subversion—highlight the resilience and determination of South's people. Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding their city and its future stands as a testament to their enduring spirit and the profound significance of their  freedom.
