At the heart of the ongoing discussions around the rightful Southern people's aspiration lies a fundamental question: What drives the northern forces and Yemeni media to be so preoccupied with southern affairs, instead of addressing their own pressing problems in Yemenia? This political and media intrusion into southern affairs is not born out of any love for the southern people. Rather, it largely stems from broader goals tied to the idea of tearing the south apart, driven by a dream of reoccupy it.

From a legal and historical perspective, the southern people have legitimate demands, grounded in their unique national history and their status as a sovereign state before 1990. This forms a legally recognized basis in line with the UN Charter and the principles of self-determination. Southerners are not calling for the restoration of their southern state out of thin air or based on emotional motives, but rather from a historically and practically rooted conviction, reinforced by a broad popular will as expressed in numerous massive protests and social, political, and community events.

Conversely, the continuous interference from Yemeni parties—whether through political speeches or media campaigns—exhibits a blatant pattern aimed at imposing a distorted and malicious narrative. These media campaigns typically ignore the core of the southern popular demands and resort to maliciously undermining them in an attempt to delegitimize them. Meanwhile, the southerners themselves are putting forward a modern national project based on civil principles—an endeavor in which they have previously achieved relative success—seeking to realize social justice and sustainable development in the south.

Objectively speaking, it’s clear that such media campaigns largely serve as a tool to distort the image of the south and its legitimate demands, while also providing a domestic smokescreen to cover up the major political, economic, and social challenges facing the north. The south, despite all its struggles, today demonstrates a state of social and political cohesion that reflects a collective awareness rejecting any Yemeni tutelage. This cohesion explains the ongoing steadfastness of the southern people in defending their cause, right and national project by all means available.

The crucial point here is to highlight the truth: the south has a clear identity and a history that cannot be ignored, along with fair legal demands acknowledged by international covenants.

Raising awareness about this fact—especially in the face of the northern and Yemeni forces’ campaigns—is essential for engaging both the southern and international public. No discourse that diminishes the demands of the southern people or portrays them in a distorted or incomplete manner can ever succeed in erasing the truth: an entire people exists, holding a clear vision and clinging firmly to its land, national project and identity.

This realistic and logical understanding, free of any bias or previous interests—particularly in the international context—must be the foundation of any political or media analysis that seeks to address the Southern issue in the positive light it deserves. Ultimately, the final word belongs to the southern people, who have already declared their decision in numerous massive popular presence, most notably, Aden historic Declaration and the rise of a mandated Southern leadership, represented by the Southern Transitional Council (STC)
