The Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) condemned on Friday, October 17, a drone attack carried out by the Houthi group on two ambulances in Al-Dhalea governorate on Wednesday, October 15. The attack resulted in the death of one paramedic and left several medical crew members with serious injuries.

In a statement issued on Friday and carried by the official news agency SABA, the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights stated that "targeting medical teams and relief vehicles constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Four Geneva Conventions."

It added that the incident "reflects the continued pattern of targeting civilians and humanitarian facilities with impunity."

The ministry called on the international community, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Envoy to Yemen to "clearly and explicitly condemn this criminal act."

It further urged "immediate and effective measures to pressure the Houthi militias to stop their crimes against civilians and humanitarian workers and to hold the perpetrators accountable."

In a separate statement on the same day, the Southern Transitional Council, while strongly condemning the attack, described it as a "heinous crime and a systematic terrorist practice" against civilians in the Southern governorates, holding the Houthi group "fully legally responsible" for the incident.

Anwar Al-Tamimi, spokesperson for the STC, stated that "the continuation of these terrorist crimes will not deter the people of the South from defending their land and their right to life and dignity."

The attack occurred on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, in the Al-Fakher area, north of Al-Dhalea governorate, while the two ambulances were carrying out humanitarian missions to transport civilian casualties, according to both statements.

The attack resulted in the death of paramedic Ahmed Mohsen Al-Jabily (25 years old) from Jahaf district and left eight other medical crew members with serious injuries.

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting civilian and humanitarian facilities in South Yemeni areas over the past months, amid repeated calls from international organizations to cease targeting humanitarian workers.

The attack comes within the context of a new military escalation witnessed at the fronts of Al-Dhalea since mid-October, where three Southern Armed Forces soldiers were killed and seven others injured in separate attacks carried out by Houthi drones on military positions in Al-Jab and Al-Fakher
