President Al-Zubaidi Arrives in Moscow and Meets with the Russian Foreign Minister

President Aidaros Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council and Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived this afternoon, Tuesday, in the Russian capital, Moscow, on an official visit during which he will hold high-level meetings with a number of Russian government and foreign ministry officials.

Upon his arrival in Moscow, President Al-Zubaidi and his accompanying delegation held a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and several senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting reviewed the historical relations between our country and the Russian Federation and discussed ways to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation in various fields to serve the mutual interests of the two friendly nations.

The discussions also covered the latest political, economic, humanitarian, and security developments in our country, as well as the regional and international efforts being made to end the conflict and restore stability to the region.

In this context, President Al-Zubaidi emphasized the important role that Russia can play in supporting peace efforts aimed at restoring stability to the region through joint coordination and engagement with the active parties on the ground. He also welcomed the Russian friends’ intention to reopen their embassy in the capital, Aden, in the near future.

President Al-Zubaidi stressed the importance of de-escalation as a foundation for any genuine peace intentions, reaffirming that the protection of the South remains a top priority for the Southern Transitional Council. He reiterated that any comprehensive political solution must be based on respect for the cause of the people of the South and their right to achieve their aspirations for restoring their state.

For his part, Minister Lavrov affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting efforts to establish peace in our country and to enhancing security and stability in the region. He also highlighted the deep historical relations that have linked the two friendly nations and peoples for decades.

Attending the meeting from President Al-Zubaidi’s delegation were:

Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, Member of the STC Presidency and Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission supporting the Presidential Leadership Council;

Major General Haitham Qassem Taher, Member of the STC Presidency and Chairman of the Joint Security and Military Committee;

Mr. Moamen Al-Saqqaf, Member of the STC Presidency and Head of the Executive Leadership of the STC Local Leadership in the capital, Aden;

Dr. Saleh Mohsen Al-Hajj, Head of the STC Foreign Affairs Department;

and Mr. Imad Mohammed, Director of the Office of the Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council.

From the Russian side, the meeting was attended by:

Mr. Alexander Grushko, Deputy Foreign Minister;

Ambassador Maxim Maksimov, Deputy Director of the Department of Middle East and North Africa;

Ms. Yulia Lapshina, Head of the Gulf Division at the Department of Middle East and North Africa;

Mr. Alexey Titov, Advisor at the Department of Middle East and North Africa;

and Mr. Rafael Enikeyev, First Secretary at the Department of Middle East and North Africa.
