Important Political Statement Issued by the Southern Transitional Council (STC)

Based on the Southern Transitional Council's keenness to maintain the unity of the Southern ranks, preserve the social fabric, strengthen national cohesion, and prioritize the supreme interest of the homeland, the Council's leadership has taken responsible steps since the very first moments of the closure of its senior headquarters in the capital, Aden. This involved initiating a series of contacts and holding several meetings with the de facto authorities—represented by the local leadership in Aden, the Government, and the Presidential Leadership Council in Ma’ashiq—as well as various military and civil leaders. These efforts aimed to understand the reasons behind this dangerous measure and work toward urgent solutions leading to the reopening of the headquarters, enabling the Council’s leaders and members to exercise their political duties and their legitimate right to peaceful expression.
However, these efforts were met with a collective evasion of responsibility. All parties claimed that no closure orders had been issued, while shifting the blame onto Presidential Leadership Council member Abu Zara’a Al-Mahrami. This scene reflects the extent of confusion and lack of responsibility, confirming a systematic trend to target the Southern Transitional Council and attempt to exclude it from the political arena.
After exhausting all avenues, and with the political deadlock reaching its peak amidst continued procrastination and the absence of clear answers or serious solutions—and after those leaders turned their backs on their national responsibilities—the Southern Transitional Council considers what is happening to be overt attempts to silence the voice of the people of the South, confiscate their political will, and target the political representative of the Southern national cause.
Accordingly, the Southern Transitional Council calls upon its masses, supporters, grassroots, and all free people of the South to participate in a peaceful mass mobilization in the capital, Aden, on the morning of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in front of the National Assembly building in Tawahi District. This mobilization is to affirm the rejection of policies of repression and restriction, and to renew the pledge to uphold national rights and principles and demand the unconditional reopening of the Council’s headquarters.
The Southern Transitional Council holds all Southern political and military leaders within the de facto authority, and everyone involved in closing its headquarters, fully responsible for any repercussions resulting from this escalation and any subsequent popular tension. The Council commends the sincere national stance of certain officers and security personnel at the headquarters who refused to use violence against their brothers to prevent protest vigils, which led to their dismissal or suspension. The Council affirms that the people of the South possess the awareness, patience, and cohesion necessary to confront all attempts to circumvent their will, just as they have previously thwarted all attempts at repression and the breaking of their resolve.
Furthermore, the Council believes that the suppression of peaceful political action, the targeting of leaders, the closure of headquarters, the repression of mass activities, the abandonment of Southern national gains, and the dismantling of the Southern Armed Forces—altering their national liberation doctrine to turn them into a functional tool for external conflicts—does not serve our national project. Rather, it targets it, especially amidst the empowerment of occupational forces within Southern geography that had been fully liberated in early January 2026.
While the Southern Transitional Council reiterates its commitment to a peaceful approach, it maintains that the continuation of these practices will only lead to further escalation, emphasizing that the will of the people is impossible to break or bypass.
Glory to the martyrs,
And decisive victory for the people of the South and their just national cause.
