STC Affirms Strong Alignment with US and UK in Countering Houthi Threats in the Red Sea

South Eye | Report - Exclusive

The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has reaffirmed its strong alignment with the United States and the United Kingdom in securing international maritime trade and countering the threats posed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the Red Sea. In a recent statement, President Aidroos Al-Zubaidi emphasized the importance of degrading and deterring these threats to ensure regional stability and protect global shipping lanes.

President Al-Zubaidi highlighted that addressing the root causes of Yemen’s conflict requires confronting Iran’s destabilizing influence and the Houthis' aggressive actions, which endanger both regional security and international trade. He expressed firm support for the actions taken by the US and UK in the Red Sea, stating that stability at sea translates to stability on land, reinforcing the need for strong alliances and collective action.

The STC’s External Affairs Department echoed this sentiment, affirming that the South stands alongside the United States in protecting maritime security from piracy and terrorism. This statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Red Sea, where Houthi forces have intensified attacks on commercial and military vessels, drawing increased Western military responses.

The STC’s position underscores its strategic role as a key regional player committed to safeguarding international trade routes. By actively supporting Western-led security efforts, the STC strengthens its international partnerships, also reinforces its long-standing objective of securing recognition as a legitimate political and security force in South.

As N. Yemen remains fragmented between competing factions, the STC’s proactive engagement in maritime security for sure will bolster its standing among international allies, further solidifying its case for a stable, independent South that contributes to regional and global stability, but for now the time for self administration must be taken.
