REPORTS - منذ 23 يوم

As we stand on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Aden on the 27th of Ramadan in 2015, some ask: "When will the South come?"

The South is already with its people and in their hands. They manage its institutions and strive to rebuild them anew. They tend to their wounds, console their orphans and widows, and look toward the future—fully aware of the present, comprehending it, and drawing lessons from the past.

Take heed, dear ones. Let not the complexities of the present—often fabricated—distract us from envisioning a broad and insightful perspective: Where were we in 1994? How were we in 2007? What happened to us in 2015?
Are we free today? Are we safer? More stable?

We triumphed in the great military battle, where we sacrificed thousands of martyrs and wounded, endured the pain of widows and orphans, and witnessed our land ravaged. Now, we face an even greater battle—the economic battle—the struggle for a life of dignity and prosperity, and it is one of the fiercest battles.

They prevented us from exporting oil, blockaded our ports, and extinguished the refineries' flames. But it matters not. We will shoulder the responsibility. We will resume oil exports or find alternatives, break the siege on our ports, and relight the refinery’s chimney. It is only a matter of time, no more—no matter the mischief of the saboteurs.

Our situation today is like one who has reclaimed his usurped apartment. He lives in it, uses its rooms, and benefits from all its amenities—the kitchen, TV, washing machine, and so on—and freely gazes from its balcony at the beautiful shore and splendid garden. Yet, he must shuttle from one court to another, from one judge to the next, to reclaim its deeds—because some still believe that merely allowing them to live there with you grants them ownership by squatter’s rights!

In Aden, we do not recognize "lease" as ownership, nor do we believe in "possession by occupation." We will argue, struggle, and persevere with all skill, strength, and resolve. Truth is on our side, and Allah is with the truth. We lack no patience, and we hold many keys to triumph and victory.

What we need now is work, diligence, construction, thought, and planning for the future. Nothing will change or improve our conditions more than perseverance, determination, resolve, and steadfastness—not more complaints, lamentations, or cursing fate.

O youth, your homeland is in your hands. Build it as you love, with all your might, and as you wish it to be. No one will stop you except yourselves, and no one will build it but you.

A glorious day of victory, blessed conclusions, and may you prosper, Aden.
