Aden || Southern Eye:
President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), highlighted the importance of concerting regional and international efforts to support the reforms being pursued by the PLC and the government on the path to economic recovery, enhancing stability, and improving living conditions in the country.

This came during his virtual meeting on Monday afternoon with His Excellency Steven Fagin, the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen. President Al-Zubaidi briefed the ambassador on the achievements of the Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Revenues in implementing financial and administrative reforms across several key revenue-generating institutions, including the transport, communications, customs, and tax sectors, in addition to the ongoing efforts to reoperate Aden refinery, rehabilitate and reactivate oil sector facilities, and bolster the Central Bank in the capital, Aden, to empower the bank to perform its duties with greater independence and efficiency, allowing it to effectively manage monetary policy, safeguard the national currency, and reinforce the country's financial stability.

The meeting reviewed the positive results yielded by the government's reform efforts, which have successfully halted the deterioration of the local currency's exchange rate, reduced the prices of consumer goods, and have had a tangible impact on improving living conditions and alleviating citizen hardship.

Politically, the two sides discussed the latest political developments in the country amid the regional tensions fueled by the Houthis' continued escalation in international shipping lanes and their persistent mobilization on border fronts, and the militia's desperate attempts to turn ports under their control into outlets for smuggling weapons and chemical materials from Iran.

Furthermore, the two sides discussed the security and military situation, during which President Al-Zubaidi detailed the tireless efforts by the Southern armed forces and security services in combating terrorism and pursuing its remnants, as well as the successful operations in intercepting shipments of weapons smuggled to the Houthi militia. His Excellency praised the effective US role in implementing the resolution banning weapons smuggled to the militias and drying up their sources of funding and simultaneously affirmed the importance of continued US support in the security, military, and intelligence aspects, as well as enhanced coordination to sustain these achievements.

The meeting was attended by Imad Mohammed, Director of the Office of the PLC Vice Chairman, and Mohammed Ali, Deputy Head of the STC’s Foreign Affairs Authority.
